| On December 7th we lost Mariolein, my best friend and the love of my life, and our caring and supportive mother. She was a gifted and inspiring teacher of French language and culture; but more than that, she taught all around her by example about love, generosity, loyalty, honesty, openness, moral courage, dedication, joy and elegance. We thank her. |

For those who wish to make donations in Mariolein's memory, we have established a fellowship at the State University of New York
at Stony Brook.
Mariolein's love of teaching and her love for the French language and culture were obvious from the moment one stepped into her classroom. She invested in her students with the same sincerity and initiative as she lived her life. This fellowship has been established to help Stony Brook students, who wish to further explore the French language and culture, study abroad and experience a semester in a French-speaking country. Their experiences will honor Mariolein's commitment to exposing students to other cultures and opening their minds to the larger world around them. |
